Atul Gawande for Senate

This blog strongly endorses Atul Gawande for the Massachusetts Senate position vacated by the death of Ted Kennedy. His qualifications and contributions to the health care debate are unparalleled and his appointment will be a big, big addition to USA Senate during these reform times. Ted's remaining term needs to be filled by a non-political person and Gawande's choice is great there. Kudos to 'Think Progress' blog to breach this original idea.

But at the end of the day 'politics' of such a move is enormously significant. Large number of Indian Migrant Doctors are in GOP column. Most or substantial number of those will be peeled off in Obama column. Besides, in a way this is 'red meat' for Dem base and spokes in eyes of likes of Rush and Glenn Beck who all are looking at America only through eyes of 'race'. Constituency of Indian migrants will be 'concrete' for Dems henceforth and it will be even a positive contribution to Indo-USA relations. Atul's parents migrated from India.
